A Continuing Series of Explorations

Wednesday, March 8, 2006

Marshall Center (CTR)
University of South Florida, Tampa Campus

On Wednesday, March 8, 2006; faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and administrators will again assemble at the University of South Florida to explore the teaching and learning applications of technology in higher education. Our eleventh annual Symposium on 21st Century Teaching Technologies will showcase USF faculty and graduate teaching assistants who are using computers and other technology tools to enhance the teaching and learning process.

As in the past, the Symposium will encourage broader understanding of the potential benefits and challenges associated with technology use in higher education. This annual event is co-sponsored by the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence, Information Technologies, Academic Computing, and Educational Outreach.

Multimedia Poster Presentations:
The 2006 event will feature multimedia poster sessions exclusively. Multimedia poster presenters will each be assigned tables at which to demonstrate the specific ways they have utilized technology to enhance instruction. Attendees will browse through a wide range of multimedia poster demonstrations and may converse individually or in small groups with faculty presenters. This year, multimedia poster presentations will run concurrently in the Marshall Center for a four-hour period from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Keynote Address:
The Symposium will conclude with a keynote from 2:15 to 3:30 PM. This year, the Keynote will showcase USF's use of  tablet PCs, Elluminate Live (synchronous online classroom), remote instrumentation access across the state and beyond via Internet II, NSF funding information for technology in the classroom, and a departmental approach to technology in teaching and learning as demonstrated by USF faculty members Jeffrey Ryan, Sylvia Diehl and Kingsley Reeves with moderator David Williams, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Education in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and Chair of the Council on Technologies for Instruction and Research (CTIR) at the University of South Florida.

Technology Exposition:
In conjunction with the eleventh annual Symposium on 21st Century Teaching Technologies, USF is hosting it's eighth annual Technology Expo. The event will showcase new personal computer models, other technology devices, software, and services available to University faculty and staff. The Technology Expo will be held concurrently with the Symposium from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Marshall Center Ballroom. Door prizes will be given away at the venue along with a variety of product literature.
