A Continuing Series of Explorations

Wednesday, March 2, 2005

Special Events Center (SEC)
University of South Florida, Tampa Campus

On Wednesday, March 2, 2005; faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and administrators will again assemble at the University of South Florida to explore the teaching and learning applications of technology in higher education. Our tenth annual Symposium on 21st Century Teaching Technologies will showcase USF faculty and graduate teaching assistants who are using computers and other technology tools to enhance the teaching and learning process.

As in the past, the Symposium will encourage broader understanding of the potential benefits and challenges associated with technology use in higher education. This annual event is co-sponsored by the Center for 21st Century Teaching Excellence, Information Technologies, Academic Computing, and Educational Outreach.

Poster Presentations:
The 2005 event will feature poster sessions exclusively. Poster presenters will each be assigned tables at which to demonstrate the specific ways they have utilized technology to enhance instruction. Attendees will browse through a wide range of poster demonstrations and may converse individually or in small groups with faculty presenters. This year, poster presentations will run concurrently in the Special Events Center for a three-hour period from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Keynote Address:
The Symposium will conclude with a keynote address from 2:15 to 3:30 PM in the Special Events Center.  This year we will showcase USF's use of technologies such as Internet II, classroom performance systems, and ways to maximize web site content for interactivity and active learning, demonstrated by USF faculty with guest moderator James L. Morrison, Editor-in-Chief of Innovate and Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership, UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Morrison will help put USF's use of technology in context with national or international trends in the use of technology for teaching and learning.

Technology Exposition:
In conjunction with the tenth annual Symposium on 21st Century Teaching Technologies, USF is hosting it's seventh annual Technology Expo. The event will showcase new personal computer models, other technology devices, software, and services available to University faculty and staff. The Technology Expo will be held concurrently with the Symposium from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Special Events Center. Door prizes will be given away at the venue along with a variety of product literature.

Please Note: There will be a separate Technology Exposition from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM for students. Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend between the hours of 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
