What is this virtual 3D world called Second Life®? How is it different from other online simulation sites? What is an avatar? What are Linden dollars? How do you spend them? Why are business and education interested in this virtual world? How is the USF Tampa Library already using Second Life®? Can you own that tropical island (virtual) you always wanted? Find out the answers to these and other questions as Ilene Frank and Drew Smith explore the nature of Second Life® and show examples of university courses taught in Second Life®.

Now that we understand the concept of this virtual 3D world that is owned by its residents and constantly re-imagined by them, Mary Cuadrado and Louis Lieberman will discuss and demonstrate their explorations with Second Life®, including possibilities they see for teaching opportunities in the future through Second Life® and/or other simulation sites. How would faculty even begin to use this creative tool? Become a part of Second Life® at this demonstration and find out.
