SEEDS

SEEDS (Support for Elementary Educators through Distance Education in Spanish) is a federally funded grant project proposed and awarded to Dr. Tony Erben in College of Education. The population to be initially served by SEEDS is practicing elementary education teachers in Florida (K - 6); however elementary education teachers throughout the entire U.S. will also be able to use the materials (well over 10,000 teachers will benefit from the program). The project addresses issues of cultural understanding through a unique immersion methodology utilizing several resources such as the web, interactive CD-ROMs, video, audio and print material.

Media Innovation Team designed and produced all multimedia components listed above including over 100 activities cross referenced by a unique menu system enabling teachers to search for specific activities by category such as Grade Level, Curriculum Area, Theme, etc. Each detailed activity is presented in Spanish with English-translated rollovers, printable pdf. documents, and audio/video examples.

The Zenith Insurance Group:

Media Innovation Team staff developed a web-based assessment application utilizing SQL2000 and ASP. The online tests log user scores via a secure login and email results to department heads and the employee. All tests are date/time stamped and the application logs employee scores into a database. Once inside the database the staff at TheZenith are able to manipulate score data in a number of ways. The application also includes an administration area where local Zenith administrators can add/delete/edit tests as well as monitor or chart individual or multiple user scores. The whole application was designed to be as scaleable and modular so that it can be ported to any new application as required.

Further to the development of the application, Media Innovation Team staff developed interactive games based on popular TV shows such as 'Jeopardy' and 'The Matching Game', giving employees a fun and engaging method for assessing their knowledge of the courseware. These interactive games feature complex multimedia interactivity as well as giving users feedback such as scores and answer sheets with real-time correct/incorrect feedback.

K-20 Education Data Warehouse Web-Based Training
